CCSS: Higher Order Questioning Strategies

The Common Core State Standards place a strong emphasis upon the ability of students to apply knowledge to new and novel situations. In order to better prepare students for the rigor the CCSS, teachers must now model the type of thinking required by the CCSS through higher order questioning. This approach creates a learning environment that is conducive to growth by asking students to be explicit about their thinking, incorporate what they already know into new situations, and confront misconceptions. This session will help teachers to incorporate higher order questions into their repertoire and foster a growth oriented learning environment.
